CARTEENS
Who Needs Safe Drivers?
Families, friends, schools and communities all need safe drivers. Ohio 4-H CARTEENS (Caution and Responsibility Teens) and other vehicular safety education activities have proven to be valuable tools in educating Ohio's teen drivers and saving lives on Ohio roads. In addition, communities are strengthened by bringing together teens and adults representing local agencies and organizations that are working to address this need.
Warren County 4-H has a significant opportunity to positively change young people's driving habits. Last year 681 first time traffic offenders were referred to the program by the Juvenile Court.
Program Information
The "CAR" in CARTEENS stands for "Caution and Responsibility." The seminar covers the topics of driving with intelligence, using seat belts, insurance rates, peer pressure, safe driving tips, defensive driving. and road rage. The wide variety of topics are covered through group discussions, speeches, role-playing and films.
The "TEENS" in CarTeens stands for the teens who plan and present the program. CarTeens teachers come from nearly all the high schools in the county. Several of them have been through the program as participants and felt strongly enough to volunteer.
Objectives of CarTeens:
- Understand the ramifications of driving under the influence
- Correct their reckless driving habits and reduce their road rage
- Systematically wear their seat belt while driving
